Time to complete your lunch forms!

on Mon, 08/04/2014 - 21:41
Daniel Webster and the entire San Francisco Unified School District school year starts two weeks from today so it's time to start putting all the pieces into place. One of the small but important things you need to do is fill out the school meal form. Even if you don't intend on buying school lunch or don't think you qualify it's important for the school district to collect the data and every application that qualifies only adds to our funding. Do it online and you'll save everyone time and money. Here's a link to SFUSD's FAQ on the form for more information.

It's 11AM at the Dogpatch Playground on 22nd Street between Minnesota and Indiana on 22nd Street. The soft opening should happen before that so you can wander by and take a look. For more information on the excellent people and ideas behind this project take a look at the Dogpatch Playground Working Group

Start planning for college today!

on Tue, 07/22/2014 - 10:54

The City and County of San Francisco has a great program that you should check out. It's called The San Francisco Kindergarten to College Program (K2C) and means that every kindergartner in the San Francisc Unified School District has a savings account created for them and $50 deposited. It seems small but it's free money towards college and the program offers three more potential benefits:

  1. An additional $50 for students who apply and qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch this year.
  2. An additional $100 for the first $100 you save in your first year in the program.
  3. An additional $100 when you

Walking 'school bus' helps put kids on course

on Mon, 12/09/2013 - 18:02

By Lois Kazakoff - The San Francisco Chronicle November 29, 2013

Each school day, a dozen or more children who live in Potrero Hill public housing hop on board their very own "school bus" to travel safely with friends to Daniel Webster and Starr King elementary schools. "Driver" Uzuri Pease-Greene starts the long, steep pull up 25th Street at 7:30 a.m. Her adult daughter, Urell Pease, makes sure the "bus" stays on schedule. The children walk briskly, chatting all the while, stopping frequently at front doors to take on more passengers.
